The greatest gymnastics show on Earth

17 July 2009

The 2009 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will truly be a world wide event as the Definitive Registration list shows 72 delegations and a total of 437 gymnasts (269 MAG and 168 WAG) will be present at The O2 in London for the biggest gymnastics show on earth, in October, 13-18.

The overall number of all participants, coaches, judges, officials and guests to be accredited at this event comes, so far to 1,121 people. Considering that the last World Championships of the competition format that will apply in 2009 (Competitions 1, 2 and 3, but no Team event), in Melbourne in 2005, saw 189 male and 95 female gymnasts representing 67 National Federations, it is apparent that the London World Championships will be one of the biggest ever.

According to initial estimations, 961 Men's routines and 551 Women's routines will be competed in the Qualification round of the Championships on 13/14 October (for Men and Women respectively) - a tough job for the judges!

The heavyweight countries are of course all represented, with China, the USA, Romania, Russia, Japan and Great Britain amongst the delegations sending a full compliment of 6 MAG and 4 WAG gymnasts. The other countries sending the maximum number of participants are Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia and Switzerland.

The deadline for the Nominative Entries is September 9, 2009. Updates to follow.

Tickets for the Championships are a 'must have' for gymnastics fans. The pricing range means that whether you want the VIP trip, or simply a great group day out, the options are all there. A day for the Qualification round lasts for a mammoth 12 hours and costs from just £10 a ticket, making it great value for a club trip, and with all of the 02's attractions to hand, every spectator is sure to have a great day out.
